Prizefund of  €1000 plus the winning acts will play in the 2023 Festival

Calling all Folk and Traditional Musicians and singers – don’t miss your chance to be part of the Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Music Festival, the longest running Folk & Traditional Music Festival in Ireland, celebrating its 46th birthday this year.

The festival will host its annual showcase final on Thursday  30th June.  Entry is now open under two categories, bands and solo artists.  Competing for a total prize fund of €1,000, entries close on Monday 20th June. Check out all the terms and conditions on www.ballyshannonfolkfestival.com

The winners in each category will be performing as part of the line-up to this year’s 46th festival, live in the marquee. The competition is open to folk and traditional musical genres and styles and to all ages and nationalities.  The Showcase has always been an important aspect to the festival as a platform for new and emerging talent on the Folk and Traditional Music scene.

    Terms & Conditions


    • Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase reserve the right to choose who takes part in the live events based on the online application. Contestants will be notified via email or phone should their application be successful. Bands and Solo Artists who have qualified for Final Showcase night on  30th June will be notified no later than 22nd June.
    • Showcase Finals in The Abbey Art Centre, Ballyshannon at 9pm on 30th June
    • An application fee of €25 to enter the competition (non-refundable)
    • Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase reserves the right to add/reduce the number of finals/contestants/acts in accordance with competition numbers.
    • Prizes – Band/Group – Presentation Piece plus €600, plus opening slot on the Saturday night of Ballyshannon Folk & Traditional Festival Concert, plus street entertainment slot.  Solo Artist – Presentation Piece plus €400, plus opening slot on the Sunday night of Folk & Traditional Festival Concert, plus street entertainment slot.  2nd Prize in both categories – street entertainment slot during Festival plus pub gigs during festival.
    • Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase will accept performance from Folk and Traditional genres only.
    • Solo Contestants/Acts may perform to a backing track, accompany themselves or have one accompanist.
    • Contestants/Acts must provide all backing tracks (CD and USB only) on the day of the event Contestants are to use mp3
    • Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase require each performer/group to prepare a 6 minute performance. After each act has performed on Showcase Final night, the judges will select the winner and the second place acts.
    • All Contestants/Acts are encouraged to bring people to each event (Bands Final and Solo Artist Final) to ensure there is a good support group in front of the artist at all times. It’s vital that each performer makes an event out of the day and promotes to the best of their ability.
    • Tickets prices €5 for Final Showcase night payable at door.
    • Contestants/Acts who fail to register at the correct time for soundcheck on their Final day without prior notice may be disqualified.
    • The Judges’ decisions are final.
    • Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase is designed to provide a positive and encouraging performance experience for everyone. We ask competitors, family and friends to support us in maintaining this positive environment at all times. Anyone disrespecting this will be asked to remove themselves from the event.
    • You formally approve Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase to use your name, image etc. to promote both yourself and the Ballyshannon Folk & Trad Showcase while you are involved in the showcase and after you finish. This promotion can take place on any marketing mediums which achieve exposure for both parties at any time in the future.
