Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival

August 2nd to 5th, 2018

Ballyshannon Folk Festival Marquee continues in 2018!

It’s back again! The Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival marquee in the Market Yard is back in 2018 for its 41st anniversary and already the excitement is mounting after a very successful festival last year.  This year’s line-up is very exciting with a mix of traditional and contemporary artists to suit all tastes.

Friday night – we have Billow Wood (FlatOut – last year’s showcase winners), Eddi Reader and Alan Kelly Gang and Aslan.   Saturday night Dave Munnelly Trio, Donegal’s own Henry Girls and Hot House Flowers and our finale on Sunday night features Paddy Casey, Donegal’s Goats Don’t Shave and Frankie Gavin & De Dannan.

The ‘Folk Festival’ has hosted all of the great names from the Irish folk and trad scene since the late 1970’s and continues today to offer itself as a vital platform for emerging folk and traditional music talent with our annual showcase competition which offers a prize fund of €1,000; categories for groups and solo singers.  The winners also get the opportunity to perform at the festival.

In 2018 Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Festival look forward to building on the success of last year’s festival with lively pub sessions, street entertainment, workshops, busking competitions, fringe events and ceilidh’s –  this leading festival still has something to cater for all tastes 41  years later – which is a testament to its adaptability!

The Ballyshannon Folk and Traditional Music Festival on the August Bank Holiday weekend is a permanent fixture in an ever changing world.
